What is the CAT exam?

CAT is one of India’s most prestigious and toughest national-level entry exams. Eligibility for CAT Exam

According to the defined criteria by IIMs, attempting candidates must have completed graduation with any recognized university with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. The eligibility criteria for SC/ST/PWD require 45% aggregate marks. You will be ineligible for the CAT exam if you have pursued other professional degrees other than graduation.

How to Apply for the CAT Exam?

To apply for the CAT exam, the candidates must register themselves when the application process is open. Generally, CAT is conducted in November, and the registration process starts around August and closes in September. Candidates have to provide personal and academic information while filling out the application form. Here is the step-by-step process to apply for the CAT exam.

Step 1: Register for the CAT exam when the iimcat registration portal is open.

Step 2: Fill out the application form and upload a soft copy of the required documents including recent passport-size photo, scanned signature, and caste/PWD certification.

Step 3:  Pay the application fee which is 2300 INR for general candidates and 1150 INR for SC/ST/Pwd candidates.

Evolution of CAT exam over the years

Looking at the past decade the test structure has changed quite a lot over the past 11 years. Though the marking scheme has remained the same, CAT’s time duration, and section-wise number allotment has gone through a lot of changes. The number of sections kept changing in between two and three from 2010 to 2015. Between 2011 to 2014, the DILR section and QA section was merged together. During 2013-2014 there were a lot of changes. In CAt 2013, the number of questions was 60 whereas in 2014 it increased to 100. And, the total duration went from 140 minutes to 170 minutes.
